The structure of your website plays an important role in funnelling customers to your business and towards the action you want them to take. Simple structures make it easy for customers to find the products and information they are looking for. Make it complicated, and you risk losing them to a competitor.

FACT: The easier your site is to navigate, the more chance a customer will continue to engage, and therefore the higher the chance of them buying your products and services.

Structure is important to Google too. When deciding how to rank your site, it looks for your most valuable content. If Google can’t find it, or there is too much conflicting information on a page then it actually works against you. If your pages cover multiple topics, the worst case scenario is that you end up competing against yourself for search rankings!

When thinking about your site, use images where you can. Remember, a picture paints a thousand words. It can inspire or convince a customer to try your product or service. And if you do choose to use words, keep them relevant and easy to read. Don’t bore your customers with endless detailed paragraphs. Remember they are time poor, just like you!

Finally, it’s important to keep your website clean and uncluttered. Delete or archive any old content and make sure you check that no links to that content remain. It’s frustrating for customers to think they’ve found what they needed, only to find that the information is out of date or no longer exists.
